RIVERDALE, N.Y. -
The Jaspers' offense erupted for seven runs over the sixth and seventh innings to surge to a 10-7 victory over Saint Joseph's (7-12) on Saturday at Campbell's Field in Camden, N.J. Senior third baseman Chad Salem  drove in four runs and Austin Sheffield  knocked in three runs to help Manhattan (5-10) to its third win in the last four contests.

Jaspers' starting pitcher Mike Giordano was efficient on the hill as he battled through five innings and struck out three batters to pick up the victory. Manhattan freshman Jacob Marchus retired the final five outs in order to preserve the Jaspers' three run advantage and earn the first save of his collegiate career.

Manhattan jumped out to a two run edge in the top of the first inning. Senior outfielder Mark Onorati led the game off with his fifth double of the season and Mike McCann followed with a single that set the stage for Sheffield's two RBI base hit up the middle.

The Hawks retaliated by scoring the next four runs to take a 4-2 advantage in the second inning. Freshman outfielder Chris Hueth recorded a RBI single in the first inning, and then freshman catcher Cody Silverman drove in two more runs in the frame with a double to centerfield. A Jaspers' fielding error with the bases loaded in the second inning gave up the fourth run of the ballgame to Saint Joseph's.

Jaspers' freshman catcher Mikey Miranda delivered a sacrifice fly in the third inning to pull Manhattan within one run. However, in the fifth inning Saint Joseph's nullified Miranda's RBI after a dropped fly ball in the outfield with two outs, which allowed Silverman to score earning back its two run edge (5-3).

Manhattan blew open the game by scoring seven runs over the sixth and seventh innings. The Jaspers three-run sixth inning featured a bases loaded walk to McCann, a RBI single from Salem and a RBI sacrifice fly from Sheffield. Manhattan put four runs on the scoreboard in the seventh inning beginning with a RBI bunt single by Miranda to get freshman Chris Kalousdian home from third base. Salem delivered the dagger with a bases clearing double to put Manhattan up 10-5.

Kalousdian went 2-for-4 from the plate and scored two runs playing in place of starting sophomore shortstop Nick Camastro who was hit by a pitch in the first inning. Onorati, McCann and Salem also recorded two hits in the ballgame.

Jaspers' freshman right-handed pitcher Jared Hirschberg relieved Giordano in the sixth inning retiring the side in order. The Katonah, N.Y. native gave up two runs in the seventh, but worked out of the jam and passed the ball off to Marchus in the eighth to close out the game.

Saint Joseph's starting pitcher A.J. Holland received the loss in 5 1/3 innings of work. The junior from Margate, N.J. gave up five earned runs, six hits and walked four batters.

Manhattan will complete its three game weekend road series on Sunday when the Jaspers visit Villanova. First pitch is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
