HAMDEN, Conn. – Manhattan led in the middle innings against Quinnipiac before dropping game one of the weekend series 9-7 on Friday.
Manhattan (17-21, 7-9 MAAC) scored three in the fourth and added two more in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. The three runs in the fourth came home without a hit. At one point in the inning, four straight Jaspers walked. In the fifth,
Pete Durocher scored on a double steal, and
Jack Lynch scored via a sacrifice fly from
David Moffett.
The next six runs of the game went to Quinnipiac (12-24, 5-8). In the fifth, the Bobcats got a homer from Jared Zimbardo and an RBI single from Keegan O'Connor. O'Connor's single gave Quinnipiac the lead, 6-5.
In the seventh and eighth innings, Zimbardo would add RBI hits to push the lead to 9-5 Bobcats. Zimbardo finished the day with five RBI.
Lynch and Durocher scored on an error to reach the final scoreline in the ninth.
Durocher went 2-for-4 at the dish with the two runs scored. All seven of the Jasper hits were singles.

Jacob Radziewicz, and Moffett had an RBI.
Will Hesslink started for the Jaspers and went six innings while allowing eight earned runs. Gabriel Romano tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Bobcats to earn the win.
The two sides return to action Saturday for game two of the weekend, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. in Hamden.
