Manhattan Weekly Preview

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan men's and women's basketball teams conclude the regular season this week. At the same time, the men's and women's lacrosse teams continue their seasons with a pair of games. Softball will have their home opener on Thursday at Gaelic Park, while the baseball takes on the FDU Knights in a three-game series starting Friday. Manhattan golf lifts the lid on the 2022 season with a tournament in Oceanview, NJ, and track field continues their season at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass.  

On Wednesday, the women's lacrosse team defeated Wagner 14-11 in their home opener. In the win, Grace Lipponer had three goals and four assists. Julianna Iovine added a goal and two assists. Ashley Gambardella stopped twelve shots to earn the win for the Jaspers. On Sunday, the Jaspers defeated Delaware State15-8 on the road. 

The men's lacrosse team followed suit and defeated Wagner on Saturday in Gaelic Park. Kyle Gucwa scored five goals bringing his season total to 14 through four games, which leads the MAAC. Brendan Krebs finished the day with eight stops in goal.

After two losses last week in MAAC play, the men's basketball team returns to action with two games. Friday, the Jaspers fell to Marist 56-74 in Poughkeepsie. On Sunday, Manhattan was edged by Fairfield 66-62 in Riverdale. Senior guard Ant Nelson scored a game-high 20 points, contributed two assists, and added eight rebounds. 

The women's basketball team fell to Fairfield 75-63 on Sunday. Dee Dee Davis finished with a team-high 25 points and five rebounds. Junior Brazil Harvey-Carr added a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Last week, the men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed their season at the 2022 ECAC Championships in Annapolis, Md. The men's team finished with 52 points in 15th place. ??Louis Quinn placed second in the 100y freestyles with a time of 52.67. The Jaspers finished with 140 points landing them in 13th place on the women's side. The women's relay team finished 9th in the 400y free relay (3:34.56).

The Manhattan baseball team lost to South Carolina-Upstate on Friday 21-7 in South Carolina. On Saturday, the Jaspers suffered a pair of losses in a doubleheader against Presbyterian. In the first game against Presbyterian, Will Hesslink pitched six innings for the Jaspers and ended with 10 strikeouts. 

The softball team began their season in Lake Charles, La., this past weekend. On Friday, the Jaspers lost to UT Arlington (5-4) and Sam Housten (3-2). Manhattan fell to Memphis (11-6), McNeese State (12-0) on Saturday, and UNLV (8-0) on Sunday. Against Memphis, Annie Moore hit a two-run home run in the first inning.
