HAMDEN, CT – In yet another see-saw type affair, the Manhattan Jaspers baseball team (10-16, 5-7 MAAC) came from behind to take down the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University (13-12-1, 7-5 MAAC) by a score of 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jaspers broke through with its first base hit in the top half of the third inning on an Aidan Katzman single into right field.
- In the home half of the fourth inning, Brad Grasser stranded two Bobcats in scoring position by forcing Quinnipiac's Smith to ground out to the aforementioned Grasser to end the inning.
- Following the break, Trevor Hansen sprayed an infield single to the left side to get aboard. Three batters later and two outs, Guriyandel Salva's single up the middle allowed Hansen to cross the plate to tally the game's first run.
- Then, Aidan Taclas launched a two-bagger to left-center field to bring home Salva and Katzman on second to give the Jaspers a three-run cushion after four and a half.
- Quinnipiac tacked on four runs in the next three innings, highlighted by an error by Dylan Mayer at first to bring home the go-ahead run.
- Manhattan had no end in sight, as they never backed down. With one out in the eighth inning, Ryan Lordier singled through the right side to push Taclas to third.
- Pacing the Jaspers in batting average is Andreaus Lewis, who brought his RBI total up by one with a fielder's choice to bring home the tying run in Taclas from the hot corner.
- With Lordier on third, the bases loaded, and one out, Tyler Galletti singled into right-center to drive home Lordier as the game-winning run.
- Shutting the door was Braedon Romero, who retired the next six Quinnipiac Bobcats in order to earn the series victory.
