Bethlehem, PA - Junior LHP Tom Cosgrove (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) struck out a career-high nine over 8.0 scoreless innings to lead Manhattan to a 2-0 win over Lehigh at Legacy Park.
The Jaspers improve to 5-13 while the Mountain Hawks fall to 6-13 as the teams will conclude their three-game series with a 12:00 pm doubleheader on Saturday, March 26 at Dutchess Stadium.
Cosgrove, who retired 11 straight at one point, yielded just four hits, did not walk a batter and not permit a runner to reach third in his second-straight dominating performance.
Offensively, Manhattan scored its runs on a pair of sacrifice flies in the second and eighth innings while rapping out nine hits on the afternoon.
In the second inning, freshman Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) led off with a double before classmate Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) and Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) followed with singles to load up the bases with no outs. Senior Chris Reynolds (Wall, NJ / St. Rose) then opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly to plate Pena.
The Jaspers added their second run in the eighth when senior Christian Santisteban (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) plated pinch-runner junior Joe Credendino (Wappingers Falls, NY / OCC) with another sacrifice fly.
Junior Shawn Kanwisher (Washington Township, NJ / St. Joseph Regional) closed out his first save of the year with a one-hit ninth.
Barrella, sophomore Anthony Rondon (Miami, FL / Mater Academy Lakes) and Pfenninger all had two hits to pace the Manhattan offense.
