Miami, FL - Seton Hall swept a doubleheader from Manhattan by scores of 5-0 and 3-2 at Owen T. Carroll Field

The Jaspers are now 3-13 while the Pirates are 13-6.

Game Two Recap:
Manhattan jumped out to the early 2-0 lead after two innings but could not hold on as Seton Hall rallied for a pair of scores in the seventh and the eventual winning run in the eighth en route to posting a 3-2 come-from behind victory.

Sophomore Adam Genners (Jacksonville, FL / Stanton College Prep) got things started in the first with a one-out single before beating the throw to second on a grounder before scoring on freshman Fabian Pena's (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) two-out RBI single through the left side.

The Jaspers would add to the lead with one more run in the second. With two outs, sophomore Brendan Bisset (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep (NJ) before stealing second. Junior Jose Carrera (Miami, FL / St. Brendan) picked up Bisset with a run-scoring single to extend the advantage out to 2-0.

Junior LHP Joe Jacques (Shrewsbury, NJ / Red Bank Regional) was on his game from the beginning, allowing just three hits over the first six innings before running into trouble in the seventh.

Seton Hall got the first two runners aboard without seeing the ball leave the infield before the duo advanced to second-and-third on a one-out balk. Jacques appeared poised to evade any further trouble but after getting the second out, Brett Fontenelli picked up his teammate with a two-run single up the middle to tie the game at 2-2.

The Pirates would take their first lead of the game one inning later with another big two-out hit. Mike Alescio plated Jackson Martin with a run-scoring single to center.

Jacques was outstanding, striking out five in 6.2 innings of work with five strikeouts while yielding just five hits.

On offense, Genners and freshman Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) each notched a pair of hits to pace a nine-hit attack.

Anthony Pacillo worked 2.0 innings of two-hit ball to earn the win.

Game One Recap:

Seton Hall scored a pair of fourth-inning runs before adding three in the eighth en route to recording a 5-0 win over Manhattan in game one.

With no score in the second, the Jaspers posted their first major scoring threat of the series. Pena led off with a walk before advancing to second on junior Jason Patnick's (Hopewell, NJ / IMG Academy (FL)) one-out single. Pena then attempted to score on sophomore Michael Pfenninger's (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) two-out single but was gunned out at the plate on a perfect strike from Zach Weigel.

Manhattan then threatened in the top of the fourth as senior Christian Santisteban (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) led off with a walk before advancing to third on a one-out error. Unfortunately, he would be thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice grounder before Pirate starter Cullen Dana induced an inning-ending fly out.

Seton Hall opened the scoring in the bottom part of the frame with two runs in taking a 2-0 lead.

Dana exited after 5.0 innings of three-hit ball with five strikeouts and the Jaspers would fare no better against the bullpen.

Matt Leon struck out four over 4.0 hitless innings in closing out the victory.

Pfenninger led the way for Manhattan, going 2-for-3. Junior RHP Joey Rocchietti (Green Brook, NJ / Watchung Hills) was outstanding on the mound, striking out five while allowing just one earned run on eight hits over 7.0 innings.

Mike Caputo was 3-for-4 with a RBI to pace the Pirates.

The Jaspers return to action against Hofstra on Tuesday, March 22 at 6:30 pm.
