WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - Marist posted a 10-2 win over Manhattan in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action at Dutchess Stadium.

With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 6-13 and 2-2 in the MAAC while the Jaspers fall to 7-17 and 3-4 in the league.

Marist opened the scoring with three first-inning runs on two hits and two big Manhattan errors. The Red Foxes would add to their advantage with one run in the second and two in the fifth in jumping in front 6-0 before the Jasper bats awoke.

In the bottom of the sixth, senior Joe McClennan (Highland Mills, N.Y. / Cornwall Central) crushed his second home run of the year on a blast to left field while plating junior Chris Reynolds (Wall, N.J. / St. Rose) in trimming the deficit to 6-2. Junior Christian Santisteban (Miami, Fla. / Gulliver Prep) then followed with his second double of the game. Following an out, Evan Brown (Ashburnham, Mass. / Bridgton Acad. (Maine)) was plunked before Manhattan loaded the bases on a fielding error. However, Marist RHP Chris Napolitano struck out the next batter to quell the threat.

Freshman RHP Rob Vallone (Westport, Conn. / Staples) who entered in the sixth preceded to notch 1-2-3 frames in the seventh and eighth innings while keeping Manhattan within striking distance.

Unfortunately, the Jaspers left runners in scoring position in each of the next two innings before the Red Foxes pounced for four runs in the top of the ninth en route to posting a 10-2 victory.

Santisteban notched a pair of doubles while freshman Adam Genners (Jacksonville, Fla. / Stanton College Prep) and senior Chris Kalousdian (Fort Salonga, N.Y. / Kings Park) each recorded a pair of hits to pace an eight-hit Manhattan attack.

Sophomore RHP Joey Rocchietti (Green Brook, N.J. / Watchung Hills) was saddled with the loss, yielding six runs, three earned, on nine hits over 4.1 innings in falling to 1-4. Vallone was outstanding in relief, striking out three over 3.0 perfect innings.

Eight of the nine Marist regulars hit safely as Napolitano (2-0) yielded two runs on six hits over 7.0 innings in earning the win.

The teams will conclude their series with a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 4.
