POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist starter Rich Vrana tossed a complete-game shutout and the Red Foxes capitalized on some Manhattan miscues in the field to capture a 6-0 win in the opening game of a three-game series on Thursday afternoon.
Manhattan starter Joey Rocchietti held the Red Foxes scoreless over the first three innings until Marist got on the board in the fourth on Graham McIntire's RBI double. Two batters later, the Red Foxes scored twice more on a two-out error to take a 3-0 lead.
Tyler Kirkpatrick singled home a run in the fifth to give Marist a 4-0 advantage and the Red Foxes added to their lead with two unearned runs in the seventh.
Manhattan's best scoring chance came in the third inning, when the game was still scoreless. Jose Carrera and Chris Kalousdian each singled with two outs. Kalousdian moved up to second on a wild pitch but Vrana was able to wiggle out of the jam by getting a strikeout to end the frame.
Manhattan and Marist will wrap up the three-game series on Saturday, April 19 with a doubleheader starting at noon in Poughkeepsie.

Manhattan's pitching staff held its opponent scoreless for 21 consecutive innings until Marist scored in the fourth inning ... the Jaspers' staff had completed back-to-back shutouts for the first time in six years ... Chris Kalousdian, Joe McClennan and Vin Teixeira finished with two hits apiece ... Sean Abbate pitched a scoreless eighth inning ... Rocchietti allowed four base hits in seven innings.
