Miami, FL (March 18, 2005)- Manhattan beat Florida International University tonight in the first game of a two game series 10-3 in Miami, FL. The Jaspers overall record is now 5-7.
Junior
John Fitzpatrick started a Manhattan rally in the first inning earning two runs off a double with one out. The Jaspers finished the inning with six runs. The Golden Panthers tried to rally back but finished short finishing the inning with only two runs.
After three scoreless innings the Golden Panthers added a run in the bottom of the fifth. Manhattan answered back in the sixth inning when freshman
Nunzio Franzese was brought home by freshman
Matt Rizzotti after hitting a double and stealing third base.
Manhattan shutout FIU for the rest of the game and scored three more runs to end the game with the score of 10-3. Two of those runs came in the seventh and the final run was in the eighth.
Junior
Chris Cody pitched all nine innings striking out five and allowing only three runs.
The Jaspers play FIU again tomorrow Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m. on FIU's campus in Miami, FL.
