Staten Island, NY (May 4, 2004)- Leading 3-2 headed into the top of the ninth, Manhattan blew open the game with a seven run inning on the way to a 10-2 non-conference win over Wagner today at Bill Willets Field.
Mike Parisi (2-5) went the final six innings for the Jaspers, allowing just two hits and walking none, while striking out 12 to earn the win. Manhattan improves to 16-21-1.
Leading by just one entering the ninth,
Sam Deluca led off the inning with a solo homer, before, after Manhattan loaded the bases with none out,
Josh Greco blasted a grand slam, only to be followed by a solo homer by
Gary Diaz.
Nick Carbone followed with a triple to center, and
John Maser plated him with a RBI groundout, scoring the Jaspers' seventh run of the inning and making the score 10-2 Manhattan.
Manhattan took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on a RBI single from Deluca, plating
Nick Carbone, who went 2-4 with two runs scored on the day.
Wagner took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run homer. The Jaspers regained the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh as back-to-back singles from Diaz and
John Fitzpatrick, plating Deluca and
Matt Cucurullo, respectively.
Deluca was 4-5 on the day, with two RBI and two runs scored.
