RIVERDALE, NY - The Manhattan softball team lost the third and final game of their home series against Rider, 3-2. The Jaspers lost the series this weekend two games to one overall.
The theme of this game early on was pitching. Both teams' starters did not allow a run with Manhattan's Mollie Charest and Rider's Jessie Niegocki, each tossing four shutout innings. Both relievers would throw a shutout fifth inning, before a Rider solo home run would break the scoring drought in the sixth. After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, Rider would load the bases in the top of the seventh. The Broncs would connect on a single, driving in two runs, to give themselves a 3-0 lead going into the final half inning. Manhattan was able to draw a walk, before Sophia Kiseloski came up and clobbered a two run shot, putting the Jaspers within a run once again. However, the final three batters would strike out, strike out and line out to end the ballgame with a 3-2 Rider victory.
The win was picked up by Rider's Fallyn Stoeckel, while Ava Metzger was charged with the loss for the Jaspers.
UP NEXT: The Jaspers return home next weekend for a series against Saint Peter's. They will play games one and two Friday, April 12th with a doubleheader starting at noon. The third and final game will be played on Saturday, April 13th at noon.
