Jaspers Split Doubleheader with Saint Peter's

RIVERDALE, NY. - The Manhattan softball team split their Saturday doubleheader against Saint Peter's winning game one 8-7, before dropping game two 5-2.

Game One – Manhattan 8, Saint Peter's 7

In game one, scoring came early and often, starting with a 3-run home run by Jess Forte to give the Peacocks an early 3-0 lead. Manhattan would rally together a four run second inning, including a two RBI double from Anissa Villalobos, an RBI single from Gabriella Mazzotta, and a sacrifice fly from Maddy Weir.

Saint Peter's would enter the scoring column again in the top of the fourth, with an RBI double to tie the game at 4. This would remain the score until the bottom of the fifth inning when Karissa Spring would hit an RBI single to take a 5-4 lead, followed by a 3-run blast by Villalobos, to extend the lead to 8-4. In the sixth inning, the Peacocks would load the bases, and score on a fielder's choice, followed by a 2 RBI double, to narrow the gap to one, entering the final inning. After Manhattan failed to score in the seventh, the Peacocks found themselves with two on and two out down by one in the bottom half of the frame. Spring would get the final batter to fly out, securing the victory for the Jaspers and earning Spring the save.

Manhattan's Mollie Charest picked up her fourth win of the season, after tossing the first six innings of the contest. Villalovos had a season high, 5 RBI for Manhattan in game one.

Game Two – Saint Peter's 5, Manhattan 2

In game two, the game would stay scoreless until the top of the third when Saint Peter's would get two runners on, before a double would drive them both in, giving them a 2-0 lead. An RBI groundout would take the lead to 3-0 at the conclusion of the inning.

The Peacocks would add insurance with an RBI single in the fourth inning, as well as a solo home run by Dakota Pitts in the fifth, taking a 5-0 lead into the sixth.

In the sixth inning, Weir would drive a solo home run deep into center field, putting Manhattan on the board. In the seventh inning, the Jaspers would get an RBI single from Lauren Rende, but could not string together a rally long enough to complete a comeback.

Kristen Brennan picked up the win for the Peacocks, pitching a complete game. Kiseloski, Spring, and Alexandra Hess pitched in game two for Manhattan.
