RIVERDALE, NY. - The Manhattan softball team mercied Saint Peter's on Sunday 11-3 in five innings. The Jaspers won the series over the Peacocks this weekend 2-1.
Manhattan opened the first inning with three consecutive singles. This would bring up Lindsey Hoag, who belted a grand slam into left center to give the Jaspers an early 4-0 lead. After retiring the side in the second, Manhattan would again load the bases, this time via a single, a double, and a walk. Sophia Kiseloski would come up to bat, and again the Jaspers would get a grand slam, as she would crush the ball deep into center field to give Manhattan an 8-0 lead.Â
In the third inning, the Peacocks bats woke up, scoring three runs, including an RBI double, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single. This would cut the lead to 8-3 entering the fourth. In the fourth, the Jaspers would add insurance via an RBI single from Kiseloski, as well as one from Kaitlyn Flood. Saint Peter's would not score in the fifth, giving the Jaspers a chance to win the game with a run in the fifth.
