FAIRFIELD, CT – The Manhattan softball team dropped the third and final game of their series at Fairfield in extra innings, 5-4.
Throughout the first two innings, pitchers Mollie Charest and Bailey Tanner did not let up any runs. Fairfield finally struck first in the third, with an RBI single to take an early lead. The Stags would build on their lead in the fourth with another RBI single, bringing a 2-0 lead into the fifth.
The Manhattan bats found life in the fifth, setting themselves up with two runners on and two outs. Sophia Kiseloski, Kaitlyn Flood, and Bella Cahueque would follow this up with three consecutive singles, each driving in a run to rally the Jaspers to a 3-2 lead following the half inning.
Fairfield would follow this up with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game, followed by an RBI single in the sixth to retake the lead, 4-3 heading into the seventh.
In the seventh the Jaspers would get two on with two out once again, giving Cahueque a chance to tie the game with a base hit, and that she did, sending the game into extras with a 4-4 tie through seven. In extras, Manhattan would go down in order, before Fairfield led the bottom of the inning off with a leadoff triple. Following a groundout and a hit by pitch, Charli Warren would hit a walk off sacrifice fly to win the game for the Stags.
Tanner picked up the win for the Stags, while
Alexandra Hess was charged with the loss for Manhattan.
Up Next: Manhattan returns home this weekend to host a three-game series with Saint Peter's. The Jaspers and Peacocks will play a doubleheader, Saturday April 13th starting at noon, before playing the third and final contest of the weekend Sunday April 14th, at noon.
