NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Manhattan traveled to Iona today for a doubleheader with the Gaels, losing game one, 4-2, before dropping game two, 6-5 in extra innings.

Game One - Iona 4, Manhattan 2

Iona struck first, after Emma Capuano launched a leadoff home run. Lindsey Hoag would start the second inning with a triple, before scoring on a throwing error to tie the game at one. In the top of the third, Bella Cahueque struck a double down the left field line, driving in a run to give the Jaspers a 2-1 lead. Iona would rebound in the bottom of the frame, hitting consecutive RBI doubles, to give the Gaels a 3-2 lead after three. The fourth inning would be scoreless, before Iona would drive in another run in the fourth with a double to left center. Manhattan would get a runner on in both the sixth and seventh innings, but were unable to string a rally together, ultimately losing 4-2.

Mollie Charest pitched 5.2 innings for the Jaspers, allowing three earned runs, while striking out 10. Samantha Rieb picked up the win for the Gaels, tossing a complete game, while allowing one earned run, and striking out four.

Game Two - Iona 6, Manhattan 5 (8 Innings)

Game two started with Gabriella Mazzotta working a walk, followed by an RBI double from Lauren Rende to give the Jaspers an early lead. Later in the inning, Sophia Kiseloski would drive Rende in with a single to make the score 2-0. Iona would score in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double. In the top of the second, Mazzotta scored on a throwing error, to go up 3-1. That score would stick until the bottom of the fourth, when the Gaels recorded back to back RBI doubles to tie the game at three entering the fifth.

Cahueque would strike an RBI single to center to take the lead in the fifth, before Iona would answer with an RBI double to tie it, before a sixth inning solo home run from Kayla Haywood would give the Gaels their first lead of the game. In the seventh inning, Rende would lead off with a double, followed by a walk to give Manhattan two on with no outs. Hoag would fly out, allowing Rende to tag up to third, before a sacrifice fly by Cahueque would tie the game 5-5. A scoreless bottom of the seventh, would send the game to extra innings. The Jaspers would get a lead off single but could not capitalize, giving Iona a chance to walk it off. Manhattan would walk the bases loaded, but record two outs giving Hailey Guerrero an opportunity to end the game and she would do just that, hitting a walkoff single to right center.

The trio of Karissa Spring, Sophia Kiseloski, and Ava Metzger would pitch for Manhattan. Samantha Rieb picked up the win for the Gaels, throwing the final two innings.
