Jaspers Drop Finale at Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Manhattan took an extra innings loss in their third and final game at Iona this weekend by a score of 4-3.

Lindsey Hoag went five for five today for the Jaspers including an RBI and a run.

After two scoreless innings, Iona kicked off scoring with a single to center field, driving in a run. The Jaspers would answer in the top of the fourth via an RBI double from Kaitlyn Flood into center field, tying the score at one. In the top of the fifth, the Jaspers would rally, including a steal of home from Anissa Villalobos, and an RBI double courtesy of Lindsey Hoag to give themselves a 3-1 lead. It was smooth sailing for the Jaspers until the bottom of the sixth, when Iona would find themselves with two runners on and two outs. Kayla Haywood was up to bat, and she belted a double into left center field, bringing in both runners to tie the game once again at three. After a scoreless seventh, the game was headed to extra innings.

Manhattan would get two baserunners in the top of the eighth but could not get either of them home. Iona went down in order in their half of the inning. The Jaspers recorded a single in the top of the ninth but were unable to produce anything further. Iona found themselves with first and third with one out in the bottom half of the inning, courtesy of a walk, single and fielder's choice to start the frame. This would bring up Hailey Guerrero, who would walk it off for the Gaels with a single bringing in the game ending run.

Samantha Rieb picked up the win for the Gaels, throwing five innings while allowing two earned runs. Mollie Charest started today for the Jaspers throwing six innings, allowing three earned runs.

UP NEXT: Manhattan will return home next weekend to host Rider for a three-game series, starting Friday, April 5th, at 1 p.m. where the teams will play a doubleheader, followed by game three on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
