Box Score CONWAY, S.C. - The Manhattan women's lacrosse team battled Coastal Carolina this afternoon in a midweek matchup falling to the home team 15-3.
The Jaspers trailed 6-3 at the half after Coastal Carolina scored their first goal in the first 1:01.
Emily Fiola scored less than three minutes later to tie it at 1-1. Manhattan kept the Chants close, trailing by one for the majority of the first period after a CC goal at 10:38. Unfortunately, Coastal Carolina managed three goals in the final four minutes to lead 5-1 at the end of the opening period.
The second period had a different pace, as Manhattan held Coastal Carolina to one goal, while
Ashley Bonitch and Olivia Cruhers scored one goal each to close the gap to three at the break.
Coastal Carolina rattled off five goals while holding Manhattan to zero to increase its lead to 11-3 after the third period. The Chants added four more goals, including a nine-goal run to close the game and win.
Ashley Gambardella started in goal for the Jaspers and collected five saves in the first half as
Coastal Carolina had 11 shots on goal. She finished with 10 saves overall and a team-high three ground balls. Four players tallied a draw control, and five recorded a caused turnover.
