Madeira Beach, Fl. - The Manhattan softball were swept in their doubleheaders both Saturday and Sunday of the Spring Games. The Jaspers were defeated by Stonehill and Bucknell on Saturday, before taking losses to Chattanooga and Colgate on Sunday.
Saturday
Game 1 – Stonehill 10, Manhattan 7
After a scoreless first inning, Stonehill erupted for seven runs in the second inning, putting the Jaspers in a hole early. Manhattan would get on the board in the third, followed by another Stonehill run in the fourth, putting Stonehill up 8-1 after four. Each team would score two runs in the fifth, making the score 10-3. The Jaspers would rally for three runs in the sixth to push the gap to 10-6, but were unable to finish the comeback, scoring one run in the seventh to take a 10-7 loss.
The Jaspers offense was led by Lily Fish who had two hits and three RBI. Lindsey Hoag added a two-run home run for Manhattan.Â
Sophia Kiseloski started the game, with Mollie Charest and Ava Metzger coming in relief.Â
Game 2 - Bucknell 3, Manhattan 0
Bucknell would score the first run of the game in the first inning on a sacrifice fly. They would go on to add runs two and three in the third inning on a single. The Jaspers had their best window to score in the seventh inning, loading the bases, but were unable to capitalize.Â
Savannah Jones threw a complete game shutout for Bucknell, picking up the win.
Ava Metzger started the game for the Jaspers throwing 3 2/3Â innings, before Alexandra Hess threw 2 1/3Â scoreless innings in relief.Â
Sunday
Game 1 - Chattanooga 9, Manhattan 1 (6 Innings)
In game one on Sunday, Chattanooga scored four runs in the top of the first, including a three-run home run by Kendall Forsyth. Gabriella Mazzotta would hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first, in what would be the Jaspers only run of the game. Chattanooga would add two runs apiece in the fourth and sixth innings, on two-run home runs in both innings.Â
Ava Metzger pitched 3 1/3Â innings for the Jaspers, before Alexandra Hess came in to throw 2 2/3Â innings in relief. Alyssa Lavdis picked up the win for Chattanooga throwing 6 innings with 11 strikeouts.Â
Game 2 - Â Colgate 8, Manhattan 0 (6 Innings)
The Jaspers and the Raiders were scoreless through the first three frames, before Colgate struck for four runs in the fourth inning. The Raiders would add an insurance run in the fifth, before finishing the job with three in the sixth, to finish the game.
Ava Metzger started the game for the Jaspers with Alexandra Hess relieving her. Bailey Misken threw a one-hit shutout for the Raiders, including nine strikeouts.
UP NEXT: The Jaspers will head to Queens to take on St. John's for a 2 p.m. contest on Wednesday, March 13th.Â
