StatBroadcast. Marshall will christen its home field this weekend Jack Cook Field becomes reality as Marshall Athletics christens the new home of Marshall Baseball with the start of a three-game series against Manhattan at 3 p.m. on Friday.

This weekend will be the first time the Jaspers and Herd will face each other in school history.

The Opponent
Marshall is 1-7 to start the season. Calin Smith leads The Herd with a .417 batting average to start the season with 10 hits in 24 at-bats, including a double and a homer, with six RBIs. Owen Ayers leads the team with 12 hits, a pair of doubles, and a team-leading two long balls, with six RBIs. Caden Kaiser also has 10 hits this season with a team-high seven RBI.

The Preview
Manhattan (3-3) heads into the weekend on a three-game winning streak after sweeping Norfolk State on the road last week. Outfielder
Trevor Hansen collected 6 hits, including two doubles, 2 runs scored, one home run, and 5 RBIs on the week.
Noah Mattera picked up one of Manhattan's three wins at Norfolk State to aid in the sweep. The grad student pitched 5.0 innings and allowed just five hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out 6 batters.Â

Non-Conference Outlook
Manhattan is 3-3 in non-conference play after two weekends. The Jaspers have 28 games slated against non-conference opponents this season. Manhattan does not play at home until March 15, when it hosts Hofstra in a three-game series.

A Look Back
Manhattan finished the 2023 season with an overall record of 22-34, including a MAAC postseason win. Last year, Manhattan won 12 road games and one neutral match-up.

Preseason Nods
Graduate student
Frankie Marinelli was named to the All-MAAC Preseason Team as a utility player. He appeared and started in 54 games. He batted .311, recorded 65 hits, crossed home 53 times, registered nine doubles, one home run, 30 RBI and a team-leading 47 walks to go along with 23 stolen bases. In the MAAC Preseason Polls that were also released, the Jaspers were picked to finish fifth with one first-place vote.
