Jaspers Split Saturday Doubleheader

PRINCESS ANNE, MD – The Manhattan baseball team split its doubleheader Saturday, dropping the front end at the hands of Lehigh, 18-6, but taking game two off the host, UMES, 5-4.

GAME ONE

The Mountain Hawks got to the Jasper starter, Will Hesslink early, tagging him up for seven runs by the time the third inning came to a close.

Manhattan got some offense going in their half of the fourth inning, the inning opened with Trevor being Hansen awarded first after being hit by a pitch. He was moved over to third by the next batter, Trevor Santos. Santos scored on a Daniel Perez groundout to get the Jaspers on the board.  Hansen scored from third by the way of a Ryan Ash single. The final run of the inning for the Jaspers brought Ash home on a fielder's choice.

Lehigh tacked on five more runs before Manhattan added three more runs in the sixth thanks to Hansen leaving the park for the first time this season.

GAME TWO

This time, Manhattan got on the board in the first inning thanks to the catalyst of the Jasper offense all year, Jack Lynch. Frankie Marinelli singled to lead off the game and was then moved over to third by a Ash double, setting the stage for Lynch who belted a double down the center to take a 2-0 advantage.

Manhattan got another run from Lynch in the third inning thanks to a solo shot, his second time leaving the park this season.

UMES got on the board with a solo blast of their own to make the score 3-1.

Manhattan upped their lead to four, 5-1, thanks to a Perez two-run dinger, which brought Hansen around to score.

Tyler Fagler earned his first win of the season, as well as a quality start, hurling 6.1 innings, yielding five hits, three runs, and punching out seven. Garret Garbinski earned his first save, closing out the final two innings of the game and only allowing one baserunner.

Manhattan finishes their weekend in Maryland with another doubleheader tomorrow which begins at 11 a.m. with a rematch against Lehigh and then UMES at 5 p.m.
