RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Following the team's first sweep of the 2023 season, the Manhattan baseball team returns to action this week with a midweek matinee with the Columbia Lions on Wednesday, followed by a weekend series with the George Washington Colonials.
All games this week can be found on ESPN+.
Manhattan will take the short trip down Broadway for its midweek with Columbia after handling the Hartford Hawks last week, with the Jasper bats coming alive. In the team's series with the Hawks, the Jaspers clubbed a pair of grand slams, with
Trevor Santos and
Trevor Hansen accounting for them. In the series finale on Saturday, the Green and White brought around a season-high 17 runs, including six in the top of the ninth.
Pete Durocher's bat is starting to heat up, with Durocher going yard each of the last two weekends, one against Texas and the other against Hartford. In that stretch, he has driven in seven runs, including at least one in each game against Hartford.
Columbia will enter Wednesday's meeting with a 6-9 record. Columbia took a series from then No.18 Alabama, winning 2-of-3 games, including a 15-3 rout to close the series. As for GW, they play Maryland on Tuesday before welcoming the Jaspers to the Nation's Capital for a three-game weekend series. The Buff and Blue own a record of 5-16 with Manhattan not being the first MAAC school they have faced thus far. GW took 2-of-3 from Fairfield and 1-of-3 from Niagara last week.
