HANOVER, N.H. – Manhattan took both games of a doubleheader at Dartmouth on Saturday. The Jaspers used the bats in game one and their arms in game two.
Game 1: Manhattan 10, Dartmouth 6
Eight different Jaspers drove in at least one run in game one.
Matt Padre and
Frankie Marinelli drove in two.
Manhattan tallied 16 hits, five of which were doubles, and four of those doubles brought in runs for the Green and White.
The first six runs went to Manhattan. The Jaspers got two in the second, three in the third, and one more in the fifth.
Jack Lynch scored the first run of the game on a Marinelli RBI double. Marinelli later scored on a
Dolan Ocasal RBI single.
Two doubles and a single scored the Jasper runs in the third.
Harrison Treble,
Pete Durocher, and
Alfredo Delgado drove in runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, Dartmouth got on the board. An error and a sacrifice fly brought in two for the Big Green. Dartmouth scored twice more in the seventh to get within two, 6-4.
In the eighth, Manhattan regained its five-run lead when Padre doubled in
Lewi Clarke and Ocasal. Padre's season total now stands at 30 and is the fourth Jasper to reach that plateau.
Marinelli finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Marinelli drove in the 10
th run of the game in the ninth.
Will Hesslink picked up the win for the Jaspers after going five innings and allowing only two earned runs.
Game 2: Manhattan 3, Dartmouth 2 (11 innings)
Tyler Fagler tossed five scoreless innings in relief, and
David Bermudez homered in the top of the 11
th to get Manhattan the doubleheader sweep.
Fagler relieved
Jordan Warecke in the bottom of the seventh, allowed only four hits, and struck out three for the Jaspers. In the seventh, ninth, and 10th innings, the righthander retired Dartmouth in order.
In the 11
th, Bermudez homered to lead off the inning for the Jaspers. The shortstop has 11 now on the season.
Bermudez drove in the Jaspers' second run for the game with a sacrifice fly in the third. The first run came off the bat of
Pete Durocher, who doubled down the third-base line.
Dartmouth scored both of their runs in the sixth. Justin Murray tripled, and Nathan Cmeyla had an infield single to tie the game at two.
The two teams return to the diamond for the third and final game of the series tomorrow (Sunday). The first pitch is scheduled for noon in New Hampshire on ESPN+.
