BRONX, N.Y. – Manhattan led early before an eighth-inning rally lifted Fordham to a 9-6 win on Wednesday afternoon.
Manhattan (1-6) led 4-0 after three before Fordham scored three in the eighth to break the tie. The first three Fordham (2-6) hitters reached to load the bases in the eighth. A hit-by-pitch, walk, and a fielder's choice brought in the three decisive runs for the Rams.
Three of the first four runs for the Jaspers came via RBI doubles, one in the second inning before two in the third.
Jack Lynch doubled home
Matt Padre to start the scoring in the second. Padre and
Trevor Santos doubled home the third and fourth runs of the day after
David Bermudez scored on a wild pitch from Robbie Stewart.
Fordham would get one back in the bottom of third, which would start a stretch of four innings in a row with at least one run for the Rams.
Fordham got on the board via a passed ball in the third. Two came across in the fourth via an RBI double, then a single. Jason Coules drove in two in the fifth with an RBI single through the right side to give Fordham a 5-4 lead.
Dolan Ocasal singled to plat Pete Derocher in the top of the sixth. The next batter was
Frankie Marinelli, who brought in the Jaspers' sixth run with a single through the right side.
Lynch finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Padre came around to score twice in the afternoon. Bermudez went 2-for-5 on the day and continues to lead the team in hitting this season with a .407 clip.
Manhattan returns to action this weekend when they travel to Teaneck, N.J. for a three-game weekend series with Fairleigh Dickinson.
