BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Manhattan won its fourth in five games with an 11-9 victory at LIU on Wednesday afternoon.
Manhattan (7-8) scored in five different innings, stole four bases, and had three players score at least twice against the Sharks.
Pete Durocher went 3-for-3 with four RBI, and
Frankie Marinelli and
Matt Padre scored three times.
The first two trips to the plate yielded six runs for the Jaspers.
In the first, Padre brought in Marinelli with a single to left. Two batters later, Durocher brought in Padre and
Harrison Treble. The scoring in the second inning started with a two-run single off the bat of
Jack Lynch. Durocher added his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0 Jaspers.
LIU (8-8) would answer with a run in the bottom of the second and two more in the third. Manhattan added a run in the top of fourth on a
Dolan Ocasal single to right with two away to score Durocher.
The Sharks tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a four-run bottom half.
The top of the fifth saw the Jaspers answer back immediately with two runs. Marinelli scored on an error. Padre touched home on a Durocher single to center with two away.
Once again, the Sharks would come back and tie the game. The home team scored once in the sixth and the seventh to knot the game at nine.
Manhattan pushed across the winning and insurance runs in the top of the eighth.
Trevor Santos followed a Dourcher double with another to start the inning and give the Jaspers a 10-9 advantage. Two batters later, Santos scored on a sacrifice fly.
In the ninth, though, the Sharks did load the bases with two away before
John Farley got Giovanni Ciaccio to fly out to end the game.
Farley recorded his second save of the season after tossing two innings of scoreless relief to end the game.
Ryan Doherty picked up the win after pitching three innings and allowing one earned run.
The Jaspers return to Long Island this weekend with three games at Hofstra. Manhattan will play Hofstra and Merrimack on Saturday before facing Hofstra again on Sunday.
