RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan got a combined eight goals from
Kyle Gucwa and
Liam Walshe in an 11-5 win at home against Wagner on Saturday afternoon.
Wagner (0-2) got on the board first, 121 seconds into the game through Steven Dwyer.
Manhattan (2-2) answered with six of the next eight goals to lead 6-3 at the half. Gucwa got the first goal of the afternoon for the Jaspers with 3:20 to play in the first quarter.
Gucwa would finish his hat trick in the first half by capping a four-goal second quarter for the Jaspers. Walshe got his first of the afternoon in the second quarter.
Walshe made it 8-4 with 12:17 left in the fourth quarter. Patrick Caldwell made it 8-5 with 10:01 left. Manhattan didn't let Wagner get a shot on goal over the final 10 minutes while the Jaspers added three more goals, two coming from Walshe.
Brendan Krebs and the Jasper defense didn't allow more than two goals in a quarter on Saturday. Krebs finished the day with eight stops.
Gucwa's five goals bring his season total to 14 through four games, which leads the MAAC.
Up next for the Jaspers is a trip to Queens to face St. John's on Saturday, Mar. 5 at 12:30 p.m.
