HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Manhattan dropped a low-scoring affair to Navy on Sunday afternoon, 9-6.
Manhattan (1-2) led 4-3 at halftime before Navy (3-1) scored the final three goals of the game and held the Jaspers off the scoreboard in the fourth.
The Jaspers led 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3 in the opening half.
Sean MacKinney opened the scoring for the Green & White with his fourth of the season less than two minutes in.
Kyle Gucwa,
Liam Walshe, and
Tadhg O'Riordan supplied the other first-half markers for the Jaspers.
Jack Shanley put the Jaspers in front once again, 5-4, with his second of the year with just under 10 minutes to play in the third. Patrick Skalniak then scored back-to-back goals for the Mids to give them their first lead of the game 6-5 with two minutes to play in the quarter.
Gucwa then connected with Walshe for the Jaspers to tie the game at six with less than a minute left in the third. Walshe finished the day with three points. He assisted on Shanley's tally.
Navy took the lead for good with nine seconds left on a goal from Henry Tolker. Skalniak provided the assist.
Manhattan got three shots on goal, five total, in the fourth but was stopped each time by Pat Ryan.
Brendan Krebs made 13 stops in goal for the Jaspers.
Navy held a 35-27 advantage in shots, 22-13 edge in shots on goal, and a 16-2 advantage in faceoffs.
Manhattan returns to action on Saturday at Gaelic Park against Wagner.
