Jaspers Earn Top-Three Team Finishes at MAAC Championships

Day One Recap | Full Results

Lawrenceville, NJ -
After breaking the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) outdoor high jump record on Sunday, May 6, Manhattan track and field's Brenton Foster (Townsville, Australia / William Ross) was named the Most Outstanding Male Field Performer at the 2018 MAAC Championships, held at Rider University.

Foster cleared a height of 2.15 meters for the championship record, good for a MAAC gold medal and besting the 2.12 meters reached by Rider's James Murray in 2002. His performance, among many stellar Jasper performances of the weekend, helped the men's team to a top three finish, while the Manhattan women also finished third in the conference championships.

Manhattan freshman Eduard Winner (Tel Aviv, Israel) was named Male Rookie of the Meet after winning gold in the men's pole vault on Saturday, his best performance in the event so far this season. Another Jasper hitting the medal podium Sunday was junior Ryan Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) who won gold in the men's shot put with a 17.15-meter throw. Senior Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia / Gimazija Jesenice) placed first in the discus throw, hitting 54.83 meters, a personal best.

Junior Eric Waugh (Wheatley Heights, NY / Half Hollow Hills West) took home silver in the discus with a 50.21-meter throw, also a personal best. Anu Awonusi (Dublin, Ireland / Kilkenny College) placed second in the shot, hitting 16.54 meters. Senior Fredrik Lofgren (Lund, Sweden / Lund University) came in third in the men's high jump, recording 2.05 meters.

In women's field events, freshman Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) took bronze in the women's shot put, hitting 13.17 meters. Teammate Alexandra Preckajlo (Ocean, NJ / St. Rose) also earned a bronze medal in the discus throw, hitting a personal best of 45.01 meters.

Junior distance runner Lisa Fajardo (Brooklyn, NY / Bishop Kearney) won the women's 5,000-meter race in a time of 16:49.53, just two seconds off her school record time of 16:47.52 set at the 2018 Larry Ellis Invitational earlier this season.

Senior Paige Chapman (Abingdon, MD / Harford Technical) won silver in the women's 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.96. Teammate Jasmine Davis (Hauppague, NY / Central Islip) also won silver in the women's 400-meter race, finishing in 56.44, a personal record. Running in the 800-meter race, Manhattan senior Kelly Gorman (South Amboy, NJ / Cardinal McCarrick) took home bronze with a time of 2:12.09.

The Manhattan men's team finished with a combined 150 points for the championships, finishing just behind Rider (165). First-place Monmouth finished with 270 total points.

The Jasper women earned 109 total points for the two days. First-place Monmouth won the championships with 261 points, while Rider finished second with 160.5.
