Michael Pfenninger's (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) RBI double lift Manhattan to an 8-7 win over Columbia at Satow Stadium in the resumption of yesterday's suspended game.
The teams resumed play after seeing yesterday's game halted due to darkness as the Jaspers improve to 12-10 with their fifth-straight victory with the Lions falling to 5-17.
Freshman
Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) went 3-for-5 with four RBI and a run while falling a homer short of the cycle to pace a seven-hit Manhattan attack. Senior
Brendan Bisset (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) singled, drew three walks and scored three runs, including the game-winner in the top of the 10th.
Junior
Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) was 2-for-4 with a run while Senior
Adam Genners (Jacksonville, FL / Stanton College Prep) was 1-for-3 with a run, RBI and walk to round out the top Jasper performers on offense.
Columbia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Padre plated Bisset with a two-out RBI double in the top of the second.
The Lions would extend their advantage out to 4-1 after three innings of play before Manhattan broke through with four runs in taking a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth. Pena singled with one out before Bisset and sophomore
Alex Cerda (Miami, FL / Florida Christian Prep) drew walks to load up the bases. Padre followed with a bases-clearing triple to tie up the game at 4-4. Genners then gave the Jaspers their first lead of the day with a two-out, RBI single to chase home Padre.
Columbia would immediately tie the game in the bottom part of the frame at 5-5.
In the top of the seventh, Genners led off the frame with a walk before scoring on a
Matt Forlow (GS, Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) RBI triple. Back-to-back MAAC Player of the Week
Richie Barrella (Jr., Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) would plate Forlow later in the frame with a RBI ground out in giving the visitors a 7-5 lead.
The Lions would get one run in each of the final two frames in helping to force extras.
Sophomore RHP
T.J. Stuart (MIlfort, CT / Joseph A. Foran) struck out one while yielding one run on one hit over 3.0 innings in earning the win.
Randell Kanemaru went 3-for-6 with three runs to lead the way for Columbia.
Manhattan returns to action at Fordham on Friday, March 30 with first pitch tabbed for 11:00 am.
