Brenton Foster (Townsville, Australia / William Ross) earned a top 10 finish in the high jump at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships held in College Station, TX.
Foster, the only male field performer from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) to compete in the national championships, posted a height of 2.15 meters, tying for 10th in a field of 16.
Foster qualified for the NCAA championships after setting the Manhattan high jump record on December 1, 2017 with 2.24-meter jump. The performance earned him a fifth-place seed at the NCAAs.
Manhattan College boasts
13 NCAA champions, including a team victory earned 45 years ago, to the day, of Foster's high jump performance. Under head coach Fred Dwyer and assistant Frank "Gags" Gagliano, that 1973 team saw wins in the two-mile race and from the Jaspers' distance medley relay team, which included current Manhattan assistant coach
John Lovett.
Foster recently took home the gold medal in the high jump at the 2018 MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. He was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer of that meet, and has won MAAC Male Field Performer of the Week honors twice this indoor season.
