Box Score

RIVERDALE, NY – Molly Fitzpatrick (Yorktown, NY) scored five goals and Emily Sandford (Floral Park, NY) added four tallies, as the Manhattan College women's lacrosse team (1-4) earned a dominant 16-3 victory over Saint Mary's (1-5) at Gaelic Park on Sunday.  It was Manhattan's highest offensive output since a 16-5 home victory over Delaware State on April 11, 2015, as well as Katie McConnell's first win as the Jaspers' head coach.

Manhattan was in control from the opening whistle, getting a goal from Sandford just over two minutes in and another from Caitlin Murphy (Carmel, NY) 90 second later.  Saint Mary's got on the board at the 25:09 mark, but the Jaspers responded with seven unanswered goals to increase their lead to 9-1.  After the Gaels pulled within 9-2, Sandford scored on a free position shot just before time expired to make it 10-2 at halftime.

Fitzpatrick found the back of the net three times in the first 10:45 of the second half, as the Jaspers extended the margin to 14-2.  Sandford and Sarah Lang (Golden's Bridge, NY) added late tallies to close out the 16-3 win.  The 11-goal margin of victory was the Jaspers' largest since an 18-2 triumph at Delaware State on March 15, 2014.  The three goals allowed were the fewest since Manhattan beat Iona 12-2 on April 23, 2014.

“We really followed the game plan,” McConnell said.  “We worked well with each other and were very selfless, which was awesome.  They really wanted each other to score, which I think was the difference.”

The Jaspers held a 14-5 edge in draw controls and outshot Saint Mary's 33-20.  Manhattan also collected 16 ground balls to the Gaels' 12.

Three different Jaspers recorded five points in the game.  Fitzpatrick tallied five goals, while Sandford had an assist to go along with her four goals.  Murphy, meanwhile, finished with three goals and two assists.  Darby Nolan (Oak Ridge, NJ) contributed two goals and an assist, and Lang distributed two assists while also scoring a goal.  Emma Kaishian (Yorktown, NY) picked up a team-high three ground balls and controlled three draws.  Kara Hodapp (Oak Ridge, NJ) registered four draw controls, two ground balls, a goal and an assist.  Nikki Prestiano (Yorktown Heights, NY) (1-4) made six saves before being relieved in goal by Caitie Pluta (Sykesville, MD), who stopped one Saint Mary's shot.

Jillian Dunlap had a goal, an assist and two draw controls for the Gaels.  Hanna Dalrymple and Meg Sheehan each snagged three ground balls.  Sheehan (0-2) also made seven saves in net.

Up next, the Jaspers will travel to Rutgers (4-3) for a 3 p.m. contest on Wednesday.  The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was moved back a day due to the forecast of inclement weather.
