Stony Brook, NY - Stony Brook scored eight unanswered runs to defeat Manhattan 8-2 in non-conference action at Joe Nathan Field.
The Seawolves improve to 12-12 while the Jaspers fall to 7-17.
Manhattan started quickly in the top of the first as junior Jose Carrera (Miami, FL / St. Brendan) led off with a walk and quickly advanced to third on a Christian Santisteban (Sr., Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) double. Carrera then scored on a Fabian Pena (Fr., Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) RBI ground out before freshman Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) picked up Santisteban with a RBI single to give the visitors an early 2-0 lead.
The trio of Marc Galvan (Fr., Manasquan, NJ / Manasquan) Chris Liquori (Sr., Wyckoff, NJ / Ramapo) and Joe DiTorrice (Fr., Montgomery, NJ / Montgomery) combined to limit Stony Brook to just four hits and no runs over the next five innings as the Jaspers maintained their 2-0 advantage.
Manhattan would again threaten in the top of the sixth but stranded a pair of runners in scoring position and Stony Brook rallied for five runs in the bottom part of the frame in assuming a 5-2 advantage.
The Seawolves would add three more runs in the eighth en route to posting the aforementioned 8-2 win.
Santisteban went 2-for-4 with a double and a run and has now reached base safely in all but one game this season. Freshman Anthony Rocchietti (Green Brook, NJ / Watchung) also had a pair of hits for the Jaspers.
Reigning America East Player of the Year Jack Parenty was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI to pace Stony Brook.
Manhattan returns to action with a doubleheader against Canisius at Dutchess Stadium on Saturday, April 9 with first pitch slated for 12:00 pm.
