Manhattan outhit Hofstra by a 10-3 count while three pitchers combined to allow just one unearned run and three hits over 9.0 dominating innings.
In the first inning, the Jaspers quickly manufactured the first run of the game. Sophomore Adam Genners (Jacksonville, FL / Stanton College Prep) led off with a walk before stealing second with one out. After advancing to third on a well-placed ground out, Genners scored on freshman Fabian Pena's (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) RBI single up the middle.
The lead would short-lived as the Pride tied the game up at 1-1 in the top of the second with an unearned score.
In the bottom part of the frame, Manhattan immediately reclaimed the lead with some two-out magic. Sophomore Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) sliced a single to left field before immediately stealing second. Freshman Anthony Rondon (Miami, FL / Mater Academy Lakes) followed with a run-scoring single to right field while picking up his first collegiate RBI in the process.
The Jaspers would strand a pair of runners in scoring position over the next two innings before finally adding to the lead with two runs in the fifth. Senior Christian Santisteban (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) led off with his second hit of the night, a sharp single up the middle, before Pena followed with a line-drive double through the left side that got to the wall while plating Santisteban. After moving to third on Ryan Gronlier's (Doral, FL / Doral Academy) single to right field, Santisteban scored on a pass ball to stretch the lead out to 4-1.
Manhattan extended its advantage out to 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth when junior Jose Carrera (Miami, FL / St. Brendan) scored Genners with a RBI single through the left side.
Freshman RHP Marc Galvan (Manasquan, NJ / Manasquan) earned his first collegiate win with 5.0 innings of two-hit ball, striking out four and yielding just a single unearned run. Senior Michael Scarinci (Nanuet, NY / Pearl River) followed with 3.0 innings of one-hit relief before junior Shawn Kanwisher (Washington Township, NJ / St. Joseph Regional) struck out the side in the ninth to close out the victory.
Pena reached safely in all four trips to the plate, finishing up 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and a walk while pacing a 10-hit Jasper attack. Santisteban also had a pair of hits to round out the multi-hit performers for both teams.
Manhattan returns to action at Lehigh on Friday, March 25 with first pitch slated for 3:00 pm.
