Giegengack Invitational Results

Armory Collegiate Invitational Results

NEW HAVEN, Conn. The Manhattan College men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at two different meets on Saturday.  A majority of the sprinters and pole vaulters traveled to YaleUniversity's Coxe Cage for the Giegengack Invitational, while the Jaspers also entered a handful of competitors in the Armory Collegiate Invitational at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center.

It was a successful day for the male sprinters at Yale.  Anthony Hall (Mountainville, N.Y.) won the 60 meters, qualifying for the IC4A Championships with a 6.97-second clocking.  Hall also took second in the 200 meters (22.49) and ran a leg on the 4x400 meter relay squad that finished third.  Also on that relay team was Sheldon Derenoncourt (Patchogue, N.Y.), who placed second individually in the 400 (48.81).  Mike DeAngelis (Rahway, N.J.), meanwhile, was fifth in the 500 meters (1:06.85) and Dennis Eriksson (Sundsvall, Sweden) grabbed third place in the 60 meter hurdles (8.73).

The only field event athletes who competed at Yale were the pole vaulters.  Dean Hefnawy (Westport, Conn.) took second on the men's side with a clearance at 4.20 meters (13 feet, 9¼ inches), while Marisa Robbins (Goshen, N.Y.) and Breanna Brucher (Glen Spey, N.Y.) went 2-3 for the women.  Robbins and Brucher both cleared 3.15 m (10'4).

Leading the women's team on the track was Ieva Vitola (Jekabpils, Latvia).  She grabbed second in the 60 (7.95) and fourth in the 200 (25.89) while also anchoring the Jaspers to third place in the 4x400 relay.  In addition, Milena Stoicev (Nis, Serbia) finished third in the 800 meters (2:16.07), and Doreen Horschig (Lumpzig, Germany) grabbed fourth place in the 60 hurdles (9.28).

The Armory Collegiate Invitational is one of the premier meets in the nation during the indoor season, with a number of nationally-ranked programs traveling to New York for the competition.  Greg Perrier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Mikael Rojeras (Sala, Sweden) were entered in the college section of the men's 800, and Perrier took second place in a time of 1:51.60.  Meanwhile, in the men's championship high jump, Mohamed Koita (Cergy, France) cleared 2.10 m (6'10¾) to place ninth.  Lina Bengtson (Malmo, Sweden) had a personal-best effort of 14.23 m (46'8¼) to take 12th in the women's championship shot put, and Bianca Marten (Waiblingen, Germany) grabbed 12th place in the women's college triple jump with a leap of 11.93 m (39'1¾).

Manhattan's final home meet of the season will take place next weekend.  The Draddy Invitational will be held on Saturday, with field events getting underway at 10 a.m.  The program on the track begins at 2:30 p.m.
