Box Score 2 BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Manhattan pounded out 16 base hits and received strong pitching from freshman Joey Rocchietti and junior Michael Martin to gain its first victory of the season, a 7-2 win over Delaware at the Campbell Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In its nightcap against Campbell, the Jaspers took an early 1-0 in their half of the third but Campbell scored twice in the bottom of the frame and five times in the fifth, holding on to a 7-4 victory over Manhattan on Saturday night.

Brendan Slattery had four hits in five at-bats for the Jaspers, driving in two runs. Chris Kalousdian had three hits in six trips and also drove in a pair.
The Jaspers got on the board in the top of the first inning, when Slattery's infield single plated Jose Carrera, who bunted for a base hit with one out. The speedy Carrera stole second base, advanced to third on a flyout and then scored the first run of the game.
Manhattan got its first two runners aboard in the second inning when Joe McClennan singled on the first pitch he saw and Evan Brown drew a four-pitch walk. After Delaware turned a double play, Chris Kalousdian stroked a double down the left field line to score McClennan, making it 2-0 Jaspers.
Meanwhile, Jasper starter Joey Rocchietti hung up zeroes in his first three innings, helping Manhattan maintain its 2-0 lead. In the fourth, the Blue Hens got its first two runners on base via a hit by pitch and a double. Rocchietti settled in however, inducing run-scoring outs from the next two batters as the game was tied at 2-2 after four innings.
Manhattan went ahead to stay in the next half-inning. The Jaspers loaded the bases with nobody out and Vin Teixeira's RBI single put Manhattan ahead 3-2. McClennan followed with an RBI groundout, making it a 4-2 contest.
Delaware loaded the bases against Rocchietti in its half of the fifth, but the freshman right-hander struck out Norm Donkin with the tying run in scoring position, keeping the Jaspers' lead at 4-2.
The Jaspers tacked on one more in the eighth on a Slattery RBI single and two in the ninth on a Yoandry Galan run-scoring double and a Kalousdian single, making it 7-2.
Michael Martin entered in relief of Rocchietti in the seventh and shut the door from there. Martin tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits for the save.

Every Manhattan starter had at least one base hit ... Andrew Gorecki and Evan Brown each drew three bases on balls ... neither team made an error ... Chris Kalousdian stole three bases ... Manhattan's freshman starter William Fabra matched Campbell starter Andrew Witczak with scoreless innings over the first two frames.
The Jaspers struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Yoandry Galan ripped a leadoff double down the left field line and moved to third base on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Chris Kalousdian. Jose Carrera then lined a single to left field to plate Galan for the first run of the game.
Campbell came back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, sparked by the first of two triples in the game by Danny Pardo that tied the score at 1-1. Steven Leonard followed by singling home Pardo to give the Camels a 2-1 edge.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Campbell pushed across five runs in the fifth inning to gain some separation from Manhattan. The Camels scored five times on four base hits to take a 7-1 advantage against three Manhattan pitchers during the inning.
Joe Jacques came on in relief in the fifth and tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings to slow down the Campbell attack, allowing the Jaspers to cut into the deficit. Manhattan made it a 7-3 game in the sixth inning when Christian Santisteban doubled home Joe McClennan and Andrew Gorecki. Ryan Koopman came on in relief to quell the Jaspers' rally, keeping it a 7-3 score.
In the ninth, Manhattan got a run closer when pinch-hitter Evan Brown drove home Santisteban with a sacrifice fly, making it 7-4. But Koopman got the final out of the game to nail down the win for Campbell, improving its record to 5-1.
The Jaspers will play their final game of the Campbell Invitational against Delaware on Sunday, February 23 at noon.

Jose Carrera had two hits in three at-bats ... the doubles for Christian Santisteban and Yoandry Galan are their second doubles of the year for each ... Campbell scored six runs in the fifth in the opening game of the weekend ... both games were played in the 60s under clear skies after heavy rain hit the Carolinas on Friday.
