NEW YORK The Manhattan College indoor track & field team returned to the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center on Friday for the NYU Team Challenge.  The Jaspers won seven events in the 10-team competition, including a victory in the men's distance medley relay.

Sheldon Derenoncourt (Patchogue, N.Y.) captured first place in a pair of events.  He won the 500 meters in a time of 1:04.14, while also running a leg on the distance medley relay.  Joining Derenoncourt on the relay squad were Anthony Colasurdo (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.), Greg Perrier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Jacob Adams (Yonkers, N.Y.).  That quartet finished in 10:15.65.  Perrier also took second place in the 800 meters, registering a 1:52.88 clocking.

In the field, the Jaspers were led by Mohamed Koita (Cergy, France).  Competing for the first time since breaking the school record on Dec. 15, Koita won the high jump with a clearance at 2.04 meters (six feet, 8¼ inches).  Trevell Moxey (Lansdale, Pa.), meanwhile, finished first in the triple jump with a leap of 14.43 m (47'4¼).  Rokas Kirlys (Kamaji, Lithuania) took first in the shot put (15.77 m, 51'9), while Blerim Pocesta (Staten Island, N.Y.) was second in the weight throw (17.50 m, 57'5).  In the pole vault, Savio Paul (Yonkers, N.Y.) secured third place by clearing 4.60 m (15'1).

On the women's side, Bianca Marten (Waiblingen, Germany) won the triple jump with a mark of 14.11 m (39'3¼), while also grabbing third place in the 60 meter hurdles (9.02).  Another January addition to the team, Lina Bengtson (Malmo, Sweden) captured first place in the shot put.  Her winning effort was 14.11 m (46'3½).  Lydia Wehrli (Anieres, Switzerland), meanwhile, placed second in the weight throw (15.88 m, 52'1¼), and Ida Virdebrant (Nobbele, Sweden) was third in the high jump (1.65 m, 5'5).

The women's distance medley relay squad also had an impressive race.  Milena Stoicev (Nis, Serbia), Nicole Mainente (Shirley, N.Y.), Janie Turek (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) and Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.) combined to post a time of 12:14.45, which was good for second place.

The Jaspers begin their championship season next week with the Metropolitan Indoor Championships.  Competition gets underway with the weight throw, pole vault and multi-events at Draddy Gymnasium on Thursday.  All other events, including the second day of the men's pentathlon, will take place next Friday at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center.
