PRINCETON, N.J. – Two days after Tom Bechert (Munich, Germany) and Felix Siljeback-Larsen (Vasteras, Sweden) went 1-2 in the decathlon at Princeton University's Larry Ellis Invitational, the Manhattan College men's outdoor track & field team concluded competition at the meet with several additional standout performances. Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.) took first place in the pole vault and Trevell Moxey (Lansdale, Pa.) won the triple jump at Weaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
McGovern cleared 5.20 meters (17 feet, ¾ inch) on his first attempt to grab the gold medal, while Moxey edged Brown's Kenneth Thompson by two centimeters in the triple jump. His winning leap was 14.07 m (46'2). Meanwhile, Mohamed Koita (Cergy, France) took fourth in the high jump with a clearance at 2.04 m (6'8¼).
In the men's elite 800 meters, which was held on Friday night, Mikael Rojeras (Sala, Sweden) and Greg Perrier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) both qualified for the IC4A Championships. Rojeras took seventh overall in a time of 1:50.60, while Perrier placed 10th in 1:51.37. Also on Friday night, Ian McGinnis (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Rokas Kirlys (Kamaji, Lithuania) placed fourth and sixth in the discus throw. McGinnis had a best effort of 49.76 m (163'3), and Kirlys boasted a top mark of 47.40 m (155'6). Killian Barry (Dublin, Ireland) also recorded an IC4A-qualifying distance in the hammer throw, finishing eighth with a 53.83 m (176'7)-effort.
The Jaspers also sent a number of athletes to Stony Brook University's Wolfie Invitational on Saturday. Manhattan had four event winners, as well as a handful of second-place finishes in the competition at University Track.
Wahnetah Carty (Gales Ferry, Conn.) took first in the women's 200 meters (25.46) while also grabbing second place in the 100 meters (12.52). Alina Koenigs (Moenchengladbach, Germany) earned three top-five finishes. She won the triple jump with a leap of 11.12 m (36'5¾), placed second in the shot put (12.27 m, 40'3¼), and was fifth in the long jump (4.98 m, 16'4¼). The day after running the invitational 800 meters at Princeton, Milena Stoicev (Nis, Serbia) competed in the 1500 meters at Stony Brook, finishing second with a 4:39.49 clocking.
On the men's side, Savio Paul (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Yardley Keshinover (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) finished first and second in the pole vault. Paul won the competition with a leap of 4.50 m (14'9), while Keshinover cleared 4.35 m (14'3¼). Bobby Gebhard (Saddle River, N.J.) took first in triple jump (13.56 m, 44'6) and also placed fourth in the long jump (6.33 m, 20'9¼). Matt Perrelli (Smithtown, N.Y.) grabbed second place in the high jump with a mark of 1.89 m (6'2¼), while Jacob Adams (Yonkers, N.Y.) secured second place in the 3000 meters (8:43.34). Sheldon Derenoncourt (Patchogue, N.Y.), meanwhile, recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes. He ran the 200 meters in 22.71 seconds and posted a time of 49.40 seconds in the 400 meters.
The squad will split again next week. A handful of Jaspers will travel to Philadelphia for the prestigious Penn Relays, while most of the team will contest next Saturday's Lions Invitational at the College of New Jersey.
