BRONX, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's swimming team was the top Division I squad at the 2013 Winter Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships with a fourth place finish while the women placed 11th. The 691.5 points compiled by the men is highest point total in any championship event in Jasper history.
The Jasper men cemented their spot in the top five with another all-around effort. It started in the 400 medley relay with another third place finish. Lance Neuendorf, Mike Mackay, Rich Llewellyn and Ryan Klages finished with a time of 3:31.51 seconds to pick-up the fourth 3rd-place time by a Manhattan relay squad. Klages would later earn a 14th place finish in the 50 free (22.22 seconds) while Mackay placed 11th in the 200 Individual Medley (2:00.33 seconds).
PJ Sweeney also performed well in the 500 freestyle, placing 15th with a time of 4:57.02 seconds. Dallan Treanor, Christopher Reyes and Dennis Daly provided strong depth for the Jaspers throughout the championships. In the final event of the day, the 400 free relay, Scott Isaacs, Trenor, Reyes and Neuendorf placed fifth with a time of 3:16.96 seconds.
Manhattan's womens team held on to their 11th place standing from Saturday by earning points in the two relay events. Kerry Schuermann, Vanessa L'Heureux, Paige Raccioppi and Patricia Colton finished eighth with a time of 4:19.03 seconds in the 400 medley relay.
Schuermann and Colton also participated in the 400 free relay with Sara Buckley and Madison Brown. The quartet took seventh in the event with a time of 3:48.33 seconds, just narrowly missing a top-5 finish.
Stevens Institute of Technology won the team title on the men's side while NYU was the team champion for the women. Manhattan returns to the pool on Fri., Dec., 13 when they host a tri-meet with Montclair State and conference rival Saint Peter's.
