RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan baseball team dropped its fourth game of its series at #20 Maryland (9-1) falling 9-0 to the Terps on Sunday in College Park, Md. Terps' freshman left fielder Matt Bosse drove in four runs and hit 2-for-3 at the plate and senior starter Brett Harmon pitched seven strong innings yielding only three hits to help upend Manhattan (1-7).
Back-to-back doubles in the second inning by freshman K.J. Hockaday and Bosse got Maryland on the scoreboard first. Then senior Alfredo Rodriguez added a RBI single to put Maryland on top 2-0. The Terps tacked on another run with Michael Montville's sacrifice fly in the third inning to take a three run edge.
Maryland broke the game open by scoring five runs in the fifth inning with the surge containing a three-run triple from Bosse. Jaspers' sophomore starter Scott McClennan lasted four innings, struck out four and was responsible for six earned runs in his second loss of the year.
Harmon struck out five batters and did not allow a walk as he improved to 2-0 on the season. Maryland relievers Michael Boyden and Jimmy Reed yielded only one hit in a near perfect final two innings to close out the contest.
Manhattan looks to regroup on Wednesday when the Jaspers visit Seton Hall at 3:30 p.m. The Jaspers travel to North Carolina next weekend for a three-game series with High Point that begins on Friday at 4 p.m.
