RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Playing in their second game in as many days, the Manhattan women's lacrosse was unable to find their offense on Sunday as they fell 9-2 to the Brown Bears at Gaelic Park. The Jaspers (2-3) were held scoreless in the second half while Brown (2-1) notched four goals in the second frame.
The Bears scored two goals in the first nine minutes thanks to Grace Healy and Kaela McGilloway to go up 2-0, before senior attacker Chrissy Gutenberger got Manhattan on the board at the 19:42 mark in the first half. Brown would then go on to score three in a row, two from Bre Hudgins. Donna Jo DiNorcia was able to notch a goal with 33 seconds remaining before halftime making it a 5-2 deficit for the Jaspers.
In the second half, Manhattan would be held to just four shots while McGilloway added two goals to her total to pace the Bears with a hat trick, and an assist, in the victory. The Jaspers were outshot in the contest 26-14 and were unable to maintain possession winning just one of 13 total draw controls.
Brown went 8-11 in their clear attempts, compared to Manhattan's 11-19, and was 1-4 in free position shots. The Jaspers were 0-5 in that category. Each team picked up 19 ground balls while Manhattan turned the ball over 17 times and forced 16 against the Bears.
Freshman goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli made nine saves on the day while picking up a game high seven ground balls. Brown used two different keepers with Isabel Harvey playing the first half, making five saves in the win, while Kellie Roddy saved three shots in the second.
Manhattan will be back in action on Wed., March 7, when they travel to New Britain, Conn. to take on Central Connecticut State at 5:00 p.m.
