VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Manhattan women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-5 decision to Villanova on Saturday night in Pennsylvania. The loss was the third straight for the Jaspers who fell to 2-6 on the year.
Villanova scored the first two goals of the game, scoring twice in 46 seconds, before Manhattan's Donna Jo DiNorcia cut the deficit in half on a free position shot at the 18:01 mark of the first frame. The Wildcats however would score four in row from that point with all four tallies coming from different players.
Carly Eskenazi and Domenica O'Brey each found the back of the net in the first half as the Jaspers trailed 8-3 going into the locker room. Out of the break, Villanova (2-5) rallied off three more goals to go up 11-3 with 23:57 remaining in regulation. Manhattan would be outscored seven to two in the second half with goals coming from DiNorcia and Tara Convery.
Overall, the Jaspers were outshot 36 to 15 while the Wildcats picked up 13 ground balls to Manhattan's seven. Villanova also won 17 of the 22 total draw controls and forced 17 turnovers while committing 12 of their own. The Jaspers were 16-18 in their clear attempts while Villanova was a perfect 15-15.
Freshman goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli made 12 saves in the loss while picking up a team high three groundballs. Villanova had six players with multi-goal games. The Wildcats were led by Justine Donodeo's hat trick while Dani Weidmeier made fives saves in the win playing a total of 46:06 minutes.
Manhattan returns to action when they wrap up their fourth consecutive road game at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent Canisius on Sat., March 31, for an 11 a.m. tilt.
