Eastchester, N.Y. (April 6, 2007)- St. Mary's outscored Manhattan, 10-5, in the second half to emerge with the 18-10 win this morning at Eastchester Field. Jenny Carman and Alicia Psillos each scored four goals to pace the Lady Jasper offense.
The Lady Jaspers began the game much like they had in their previous game, scoring three quick goals in the early going to lead, 3-0, after four minutes of play. Carman (assisted by Psillos), Psillos (unassisted), and Lauren Civardi (free position goal) recorded the Lady Jasper tallies.
In another similarity to Manhattan's last game, the opposition answered with a run, as St. Mary's scored the next six goals to take a 6-3 with 8:47 left in the opening stanza. Manhattan stopped the run with a goal by Psillos off a feed from Jillian McGowan, and, 1:42 before the half ended, Carman scored off a free position shot to pull Manhattan within a goal, 6-5. Unfortunately, the Gaels were able to find the back of the net twice more before the horn sounded to take an 8-5 lead into the break.
Again mirroring the game yesterday, the visiting team put a run together at the beginning of the second 30 minutes, as St. Mary's scored five straight goals to make the score 13-5 with 16:28 remaining. At that point, the Lady Jasper's scored five of the next seven goals to make the score 15-10 with 4:00 left, but the Gaels scored the final three goals of the game to provide the final margin.
Manhattan gets back in action on Tuesday, April 10, traveling to Piscataway, N.J. to take on Rutgers University. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
