Riverdale, N.Y. (April 28, 2007)?Senior pitchers Jesse Darcy and Josh Santerre each pitched complete games as the Jaspers swept Rider on Saturday afternoon, winning game one 3-1 and the nightcap 9-2. Darcy and Santerre allowed just 10 hits combined over 16 innings, while Kevin Nieto had three RBI in game two. The Jaspers have now won 18 of 19 games, and sport a 26-12 overall record.

Manhattan jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one, getting a sac fly from Ryan Masters with the bases loaded off Rider starter Mike Petrowski. In the third inning, the Broncs tied the score. With Maurice Willliams on base, a single by Sean Olson evened the score.

The score wouldn't remain tied for long as Manhattan jumped ahead in the fourth inning. Matt Rizzotti led off the inning with a double to right field, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. After an out, Mike Garcia's fly out to centerfield scored Rizzotti to give Manhattan a 2-1 lead.

That was all the cushion Darcy would need, as the senior was brilliant in limiting Rider to just five hits, striking out seven. In pitching his fourth complete game of the season, Darcy improved his record to 7-2 on the season.

Manhattan added another run in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Rizzotti that scored Kevin Nieto, giving Manhattan a 3-1 lead

In the ninth, Darcy retired the first two batters in order, but allowed the tying runs to reach base on a single and a hit batsmen. However the right-hander retired Nick Wojnowski on a groundball to first to secure the win.

In game two, Rene Ruiz's triple in the first inning scored Kevin Nieto to give the Jaspers an early 1-0 lead. Leading 3-0 in the third inning, Manhattan broke the game open. Nunzio Franzese doubled in Ruben Perez to give Manhattan a 4-0 lead. One batter later, Eric Nieto's RBI double down the right field line plated Franzese. After Nieto advanced to third on a wild pitch, Kevin Nieto drove his brother in with a double to centerfield.

Santerre wouldn't need much support as the senior was tremendous in allowing just two runs on five hits, pitching his fourth complete game of the season, and improving his record to 6-2 on the season.

The Jaspers will look to make it 17-0 in the MAAC tomorrow when they finish their weekend series with the Broncs tomorrow afternoon at noon from Van Cortlandt Park.
