Old Westbury, N.Y. (March 23, 2006)- Manhattan rallied with two outs in the ninth to send the game into extra frames, but fell just short, as New York Tech defeated the Jaspers, 5-4, in 11 innings this afternoon at President's Field.

Manhattan built a 3-0 lead over the first seven innings, scoring once in the first as a John Fitzpatrick sacrifice fly plated Dom Lombardi, once in the sixth as Fitzpatrick struck again, this time with a solo blast, and the third in the seventh on a Ruben Perez leadoff homer.

New York Tech would rally in the eighth, scoring four runs to take 4-1 lead into the ninth.

After the first two outs were recorded, Rene Ruiz kept the Jaspers alive with a single to left. Ryan Marcoux, in a pinch hitting role, was hit by a pitch, advancing pinch runner Angel Aponte to second. Eric Nieto brought home Aponte with the tying run with a single to left.

New York Tech finally broke the tie with a run in the 11th.

Lombardi (3-5, run), Matt Rizzotti (2-5), Perez (2-5), and Ruiz (2-4) all had multi hit games.

Rene Guerra took the loss, though he pitched six shutout innings before tiring in the seventh.
