Fort Worth, TX (March 4, 2005)- Manhattan's upset bid against #25 Texas Christian fell just short, as the Horned Frogs scored two in the bottom of the 11th to defeat the Jaspers, 6-5.
TCU got on the board first, scoring a run on an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first.
The Jaspers knotted the score in the top of the fourth, when
John Fitzpatrick doubled home
Gary Diaz, who had singled and stoled second.
The Horned Frogs tallied three in the bottom of the sixth on a two RBI single and a bases loaded walk to take a 4-1 lead.
The Manhattan comeback began in the top of the eighth, when
Nunzio Franzese singled home Fitzpatrick and
John Maser to bring the Jaspers within a run.
In the top of the ninth,
Shane Bolin, who was pinch running after
Ryan Marcoux singled up the middle, scored on a bases loaded wild pitch to tie up the game at 4-4 and send the game into extra innings.
In the top of the 11th, the Jaspers loaded the bases with one out and scored the go ahead run on a balk, but could not score any insurance runs.
In the bottom of the frame, the Horned Frogs scored on an error to tie the score and the next batter drove home the winning run.
Chris Cody went the first seven innings, posting eight strikeouts.
Kyle Wirtz took the loss, going the final 3.1 innings.
The two teams meet again tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. est.
