Las Vegas, NV (March 6, 2004)- The UNLV Rebels (9-6) defeated the Jaspers of Manhattan College (2-2) 14-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Josh Santerre took the loss, while
Eric Fierro drove home the Jasper run.
The Rebels jumped on Santerre (0-1) early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. However, the Jaspers cut the deficit in half in the top of the second.
Gary Diaz reached on an error by the UNLV shortstop and advanced to second on the play. He was moved over to third on a
Nick Derba groundout and was driven home by Fierro's single to left.
The Rebels scored in the bottom of the inning, and added five in the fourth, one in the sixth, three in the seventh, and two in the eight on the way to the win.
Frank Capello went 2-4, while Fierro went 1-2 with the lone RBI.
The two teams will play the series finale tomorrow at noon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
