Softball Drops Two on Friday at Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Manhattan Softball were tasked with going head to head with the conference's standard bearer, the Marist Red Foxes (38-7-1, 15-2-1 MAAC), for a doubleheader on Friday at Softball Park. The Jaspers were handed two losses, 12-4 by Mercy Rule in game one and 14-7 in game two.

GAME ONE: (F/5 Manhattan 4 | Marist 12)

  • Manhattan jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an RBI double from Lindsey Hoag, scoring Anissa Villalobos from second.

  • In the bottom of the second, the Red Foxes took off with three long balls in the inning. Samantha Rogers and Isabella Manory went back to back in the home run category to lead off the inning. Then, after Ronni Howard doubled, Miah McDonald homered to center field to extend the Red Foxes' lead to 5-1.

  • In the top of the third, Manhattan got right back in it, scoring three runs on three hits.

  • The rally started with Villalobos getting hit by a pitch, and then Hoag reached again herself on a single. The former came home to score on a single down the left field line from Sophia Kiseloski, and the latter was signaled home on an RBI groundout from Tajiana Pickett.

  • The deficit stood at one run at 5-4 after Victoria Diaz brought home Kiseloski on an RBI single, capping the productive third inning.

  • Marist would build on its lead in the bottom of the third, plating a pair of runs on an RBI single from Howard and then a fielding error from Michayla Rodriguez. The Red Foxes never looked back from there.

GAME TWO: (Manhattan 7 | Marist 14)

  • Lindsey Hoag kicked off game two with a three-run home run in the first inning, giving the Jaspers a 3-0 lead in a flash.

  • Marist would successfully rally, plating eight unanswered runs across the opening three frames to give starting pitcher Maddie Pleasants a sizable cushion up five.

  • With Manhattan set up with runners on second and third in the fourth, the Jaspers would capitalize on a fielding error by Marist second baseman Haley Ahr before scoring a second run on a fielder's choice RBI from Jamie Falotico. The Jaspers trailed 8-5 after four.

  • Hoag successfully stole second in the fifth, which forced an errant throw and gave the Jaspers its sixth run. Manhattan would tack on one more run on an RBI single from Rodriguez.
