RIVERDALE, NY — The accolades continue to roll in for MAAC Rookie of the Year Will Sydnor, who on Wednesday morning was named All-Met Third Team, per the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. Sydnor led the Jaspers in points-per-game (13.9) and blocks (33) during the 2024-2025 season. Student-athletes from Manhattan University and 20 other Division I schools in the NYC metropolitan area are eligible to receive awards from the MBWA.
'Will had a tremendous freshman year showing that he could score on all three levels consistently," said Manhattan head coach John Gallagher. "Not only is Will a great teammate, but he exemplifies all the qualities you want in a Jasper. We are excited for his return."
Sydnor delivered plenty of memorable performances during his freshman campaign in Riverdale, which ended in him being named the first MAAC Rookie of the Year from Manhattan since Shane Richards in 2012-13. Sydnor also took his spot on the All-MAAC Second Team, further illustrating his impact on the entire league.
Sydnor is one of three Manhattan players to crack an All-Met team in recent years, following the lead of Ant Nelson, who was tabbed All-Met Third Team in 2023, and Jose Perez, who was honored on the Second Team in 2022.
A Bronx native, Sydnor exploded on the scene with 24 points (9-14 FG, 2-5 3FG) in a two-point victory over rival Fordham on November 15. It was the most points for a Jasper versus Fordham since Rich Williams scored 24 back in 2015.
Additionally, Sydnor captivated the Draddy crowd versus eventual MAAC Tournament Champions Mount St. Mary's with a career-best 27 points (11-19 FG, 5-9 3FG) and 10 rebounds on January 10.
Sydnor continued his flair for showing up big in rivalry games, dropping 23 points (9-16 FG) and six rebounds in a 76-55 home win over Iona on January 31.
In perhaps the Jaspers' most signature win of the season, Sydnor racked up 19 points (9-16 FG) and 10 rebounds as the Jaspers unleashed a late 18-2 run to defeat Merrimack, 79-75. The Warriors stood in first place at the time.
All told, Sydnor produced 22 double-digit scoring performances and six 20-plus scoring efforts, and was instrumental in leading the Jaspers to their most total victories and conference wins since 2014-15. He ended the season ranked 10th in the MAAC in scoring at 13.9 points-per-game.
Sydnor is one of only 10 Jaspers all-time to be named MAAC Rookie of the Year.
Sydnor will return to Manhattan for his sophomore season.
