RIVERDALE, NY — Manhattan Softball struggled to score enough runs on Tuesday, falling to the Quinnipiac Bobcats by final scores of 7-4 in game one and 5-1 in game two. The Jaspers have dropped it past six games with eight still to play.
GAME ONE: (Manhattan 4 | Quinnipiac 7)

The Manhattan offense was held in check until the seventh inning when the Jaspers scored four runs on four hits to shrink its deficit to three.

In the seventh, second baseman Michayla Rodriguez walked and Victoria Diaz singled before a single from Tajiana Pickett scored Rodriguez for the Jaspers' first run.

Then, shortstop Angelina Gencarelli singled to right center to score Victoria Diaz, giving the Jaspers more hope late but still down five.

Having previously singled to lead off the game, Brianna Estevez stepped up to the plate with the deficit at 7-2 and signaled two more runners home on her double.

With the tying run on deck for Manhattan, the opposition countered with a pitching change, with Jaclyn Gonzalez replacing starting pitcher Sydney Horan.

Gonzalez would induce a groundout from Anissa Villalobos to end the game.
GAME TWO: (Manhattan 1, Quinnipiac 5)

Manhattan jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo homerun from starting pitcher Sophia Kiseloski.

However, Quinnipiac broke through on Kiseloski in the fourth inning with four runs on five hits and one error.

First, Riley Potter doubled and advanced to third on a throwing error from Estevez in center field, which also allowed a Quinnipiac baserunner to come home.

Four of Quinnipiac's next five batters reached on singles, bringing around three more runs to score.

A would-be fifth run in the inning was eliminated at home plate thanks to a laser throw from Pickett at first base, ending the Bobcats' offensive surge.

In the fifth inning, Quinnipiac turned its 4-1 lead into a 5-1 advantage on Ally Hochstadter's double to right center field that scored Kennedy Demott.

Manhattan would strand two in the sixth before going down in order in the seventh, which finalized the scoreboard.

Sophia Kiseloski's home run in the second inning of game two was her fourth long ball of the season to lead all Jaspers.

In her complete game effort in game two, Kiseloski struck out four Bobcats.

At the plate, Kiseloski was 3-6 with one RBI across the two games.

Freshman Brianna Estevez tallied two more hits in game one, raising her average to .330 which is tops on this Manhattan squad. Estevez's eight-game hitting streak came to an end in game two.

Freshman Angelina Gencarelli had two hits and an RBI on Tuesday.
NEXT UP
Manhattan (10-27, 7-11 MAAC) will head to Poughkeepsie for a three-game series at Marist (36-7-1, 13-2-1 MAAC). The Jaspers and Red Foxes will play two on Saturday and one on Sunday at Softball Park.
