NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Lacrosse team (3-3, 1-0 MAAC) took down the Warriors of Merrimack College (1-5, 0-1) by a score of 12-11 inside Duane Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jaspers got off to an early start by registering the first shot of the game from Tyler Mosca on target but couldn't net the first goal.
- On the ensuing sequence, Connor Hapward came up with a big save following the initial Merrimack shot that had gone wide.
- Half a minute later, Manhattan got on the board with a Drew Hiner icebreaker to get on the board first.
- Off a Manhattan clear, Scott O'Connor found Aiden Kane for the teams' second goal of the game just five minutes in.
- During a power-play for the Jaspers, Connor Engel took advantage of the man advantage when he found Scott O'Connor for his first of the game to go ahead by three goals.
- After Merrimack tied the game at three, the Warriors attempted to go in front but could not hold Manhattan from clearing. The Jaspers would go in front, with Hiner finding Engel for his first of the game.
- Following the second tie of the game, the Jaspers went back in front with Thomas White, who found Mosca for his first game of the contest.
- After another Manhattan clear, Sean Shelko added to the second lead for the Jaspers, making it a two-goal advantage with 42 seconds remaining in the half.
- Midway through the third quarter, the Jaspers faced its first deficit of the game, with Merrimack posting three unanswered until Louden Sheehan found Mosca for his second to tie things up for the third time.
- Liam Peabody ended the quarter in style, took advantage of the Warrior's turnover, and found the back of the net to go back in front.
- In the fourth quarter, following a Manhattan timeout, the Jaspers found new life, with Connor Engel scoring the go-ahead goal to put the Green and White ahead one final time. Engel then scored the game-winning goal to ensure victory after Hapward had made two marquee saves just minutes before.
STATS AND NOTES
- Connor Engel logged three goals and notched the game-winner in the final five minutes of the contest. Engel assisted on two goals and logged six shots on target. Additionally, he picked up three ground balls in the win.
- Liam Peabody scored a pair and assisted on one with two shots on target.
- Drew Hiner added two goals on the afternoon with five shots on target. He caused one turnover and picked up three groundballs.
- Casey Klossner won five face-offs in 11 total tries on the day.
- Tyler Mosca registered two goals and five shots, four of which were on target. Mosca picked up one ground ball.
- Connor Hapward logged nine saves on 31 shots faced with 20 on target, while recording his third victory of the season.
