RIVERDALE, NY - The penultimate home game for the Manhattan Jaspers features high stakes for both teams going toe-to-toe inside Draddy Gymnasium. Both the Jaspers and Golden Griffins are tied with six victories in conference play, and are two games ahead of the Rider Broncs. The Jaspers, though, own the tiebreaker against Rider. Manhattan has dropped four of its last five, but senior guard Ines Gimenez Monserrat has stood tall averaging 14.6 points-per-game, and leads the team in the respective category. Junior guard Brianna Davis has made her triumphant return after missing games, averaging nine points-per-game in the three games she's played in, which is good for second on the team in that span. Against Canisius, the Jaspers and head coach Heather Vulin have defeated the Golden Griffins inside Draddy Gymnasium six straight times dating back to January 4, 2018.
Scouting The Opposition:
•The Golden Griffins are led by first year head coach Tiffany Swoffard, the 11th head coach in the history of the Canisius women's basketball program.
•Swofford hails from the Penn State Nittany Lion women's basketball program, where she was an assistant coach last season.
•Sophomore forward Shariah Gailes sits third in the MAAC averaging 8.5 rebounds-per-game in 24 games played this season. Gailes sits behind Saint Peter's Fatmata Janneh (11.0 RPG), and Merrimack's Madison Roman (8.9 RPG).
•Canisius is coming off a 72-58 setback against Siena in Buffalo this past weekend. Gailes tallied her third straight double-double against Siena on Saturday.
•On January 30 against Niagara, the Golden Griffins set a season-high with 23 made free-throws as a team. Good for third in the conference in a single game.
•Graduate guard Jaela Johnson leads Canisius in scoring averaging 11.8 points-per-game. Johnson's total sits 11th in the MAAC.
•Forward Mariam Sanogo leads the team with 15 blocks on the season.
•Prior to last meeting between Manhattan and Canisius, the Golden Griffins fell to the Jaspers in 10 straight matchups spanning between 2019 and 2024.
•Canisius and Manhattan are tied for the final two spots in the 2025 Hercules Tire MAAC Championships in Atlantic City. The two programs sit ninth and tenth.
•This past October, the Golden Griffins were selected to finish last in the 2024 MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll in Atlantic City.
